SMOKES SANCTUARY

All about Us…..

Smokes Sanctuary is a dedicated Thoroughbred retirement sanctuary committed to providing retired racehorses with a safe, nurturing environment where they can live out their lives with dignity and care. Our mission centers on honoring the legacy of these incredible athletes by offering comprehensive rehabilitation, ongoing medical care, and comfortable pastures tailored to their specific needs.

At Smokes Sanctuary, we understand the unique challenges Thoroughbreds face after their racing careers end. Our experienced team of equine specialists works closely to address physical, emotional, and behavioral health, ensuring each horse transitions smoothly into retirement. We emphasize gentle handling, individualized exercise programs, and quality nutrition to promote long-term wellness.

Beyond retirement care, Smokes Sanctuary actively raises awareness about the importance of responsible aftercare in the racehorse industry. We collaborate with trainers, owners, and the racing community to advocate for ethical practices that safeguard the futures of these horses.

By supporting Smokes Sanctuary, you are helping to guarantee that every Thoroughbred receives the respect and quality of life they deserve after racing. Together, we create a haven where champions are celebrated beyond the finish line.

Smokes Sanctuary is the only Thoroughbred retirement placement located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
